We received word a couple nights ago that a friend, who performed our marriage ceremony, and whom we worked alongside as missionaries with Child Evangelism Fellowship the first 15 months of our marriage, died. Totally unexpected. A routine knee surgery but a blood clot.
The trials and sorrows that many are facing seem to be more than we can bear at times. The crashing waves of despair as many endure being slammed into rocks from the force of wave after wave. And yet, Christ’s words bring our focus back where it should be:
I have told you all this so that you may have peace IN ME. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.John 16:33, NLT
How do these words provide peace? Two words: IN ME! The only place real and lasting peace can be found is “in Christ”! You see, if we are “in Christ” that means He lives in us, never leaving us alone but walking through everything we face with us. And since He overcame the world, the flesh, and the devil, we will too. We are safe in His arms! We belong to Him! He will take us home one day to live with Him – forever! He will never abandon us because the going gets too tough. We can have peace in the assurance that one day all will be changed in the twinkling of an eye. So until then . . .
Reflect on John 16:33, and also remember what Moses told Joshua when he inaugurated him as Israel’s new leader:
Be strong and courageous . . . Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He WILL be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.Deuteronomy 31:7-9
Safe in the Father’s arms is our dear friend, Frank Gauldin, who led many children to know the Savior in his missionary service to the King!
