I cannot fully express how dispiriting it feels to come down off the mountain. But likely you know, just as Elijah knew (1 Kings 18:36-19:4)!
This morning, after spending time in my study of God’s powerful names, I went upstairs and began dusting a dresser. I was struggling with many things, especially burdened after a glorious time on the mountain in Boone, NC; a trip I recently made with my husband. Now back at the day-to-day grind of chores and concerns, an overwhelming feeling of sinking sand was replacing my stance on the Solid Rock.
But as I wiped away a thick covering of dust feeling that defeated, melancholy state, the Lord spoke to my spirit!
“Have you already forgotten Who I am? Jehovah Rohi – I AM YOUR SHEPHERD! But get this, I am not ONLY your Shepherd, I AM the Shepherd of that one (or two or three or – you get the idea) weighing heavy on your heart right now!!! So, remember, whatever cares are covering you like a blanket of dust or pulling you under like sinking sand, I AM JEHOVAH ROHI – personally involved, powerful leader and restorer! I shepherd the WHOLE flock!”
At that moment, He dusted me off and pulled me back out of the sinking sand (for the googolth time)! And what did I do? Right there while wiping layers of dust from the top of that furniture, I began audibly and loudly proclaiming Who God is and What He does! Amazingly, but not surprisingly, a heavy sinking heart was made light and repositioned to stand on THE solid Rock again; the Rock Who is Jesus Christ.
Dust your copy of God’s Word off and read these passages of Scripture: Psalm 23; Matthew 7:24-27; Ephesians 6:14; Psalm 40:1-3
Have you believed, experienced and proclaimed the TRUTH of Scripture so God’s power can lift you up out of that pit of despair?
