Closer To Your Heart, Day 4

How I live my life matters, thus, it matters how I invest my time!

In my previous post I shared the “motto” for this month of fasting: Closer To Your Heart! To see this goal realized, I am “fasting” from television and making a better use of my time, as well as watching the foods I eat, limiting meats and sweets!

Since I am not spending time in front of a TV show, I have more time for God’s Word. And one of the books I have found helpful emphasizes “Living Intentionally.” Through the Scriptures that have been shared along with the testimony of the writer a wellspring of water has flooded over and splashed my face reviving what I know to be true but have been negligent in practicing. Each aspect of my life is to be lived out bringing glory to God’s name (1 Corinthians 10:31). So, the use of my time should be to the glory of God. How I use my time brings God glory, or not!

“Look Carefully then HOW YOU WALK, not as unwise but as wise, MAKING THE BEST USE OF THE TIME, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV)

How I live my life matters, thus, it matters how I invest my time!

The Apostle Paul cautions us to invest wisely while providing some incentives:

  • The TIME is evil – the world around us desperately needs to hear the gospel!
  • Spend TIME in God’s Word to know God’s will!
  • Make the most of your TIME by “[Living] wisely among those who are not believers, and [making] the most of every opportunity” (Colossians 4:5, NLT).

God’s will for every believer is time wisely used in evangelizeing the lost and making the gospel message known. But we must wake up, because our words matter little if our walk does not match our message. And every believer has been called to walk alongside an individual for discipleship (Matthew 28:19); so, our walk and our talk are either a shining beacon of the wisdom of God or the foolishness of Satan’s world order. Our words and our actions are to be wisely invested to the glory of God because the time is short!

Gracious Father in heaven, teach me to number my days, that I may gain a heart of wisdom and be closer to your heart (Psalm 90:12).
