Closer To Your Heart; NOT A SLOGAN

May I share with you a glimpse into an impeded mind sputtering for a connection? – just this morning I have:

  • Thrown wet towels into the dryer along with the dryer paper – but forgot to start the dryer 😉 (a common occurrence)
  • Just noticed something in the microwave. After making breakfast smoothies, I had inadvertently thrown the remaining frozen bananas in the microwave instead of the freezer 😉 (a new one)

So, as I sit here recalibrating my mind, I cry:

“Lord, I want to be closer to your heart!”

In this month that is building up to Easter (Resurrection Sunday), the Lord is opening my eyes to areas where I can be closer to His heart while equipping me with a fresh, renewed zeal. One such way I have found is by watching my “God of Wonders” DVD. “Fasting” from television or secular programs of any kind has given me time to marvel at the wonders of our Creator through the avenue of Creation. His power and wisdom are on display as well as His majesty and care. The Bible says:

“Declare His glory…His wonders among all peoples.”

Psalm 96:3, NKJV

As I am drawn closer and closer to His heart, I feel the enormous responsibility to get it right; to honor Him as the God of Wonders and submit to His rule and reign in my life. I often ponder how our lives are lived under a slogan if you will. But God is not a slogan that you can demandingly throw out and get what you want or what you are praying for through intercessory prayer. Our great Creator has spoken into existence galaxies after galaxies, animal after animal, flower after flower, snowflake after snowflake. But for communion to take place with His creation, God knew He needed something created in HIS image, so He created man.

“In the beginning God created…God created man in His own image…Then the Lord God formed man…and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…”

Genesis 1:1, 27; 2:7, NASB

From the breath of the Almighty, man sustained life! For what purpose has God given you and me life? The Bible repeatedly reiterates man is to glorify the Creator and live in subjection to Him. The above verse from Psalm 96:3, which states, “Declare His glory” has even greater significance in the New Living Translation as I write this post:

Publish his glorious deeds!”

Please do not reduce Him to a slogan but live life as a representative of the God of Wonders!

“I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.”

Ephesians 1:16-18, ESV
