Pick and Choose!

Feeling an attack for truth, God’s truth, I awake at night unable to go back to sleep. It isn’t until I suitably appropriate the WHOLE armor, God’s full armor (Ephesians 6:10-18), that I find peace. Yet I still find myself wrestling with the outcome. Have you experienced trying to go back to sleep with a Sword in hand?! It is through these experiences that the Holy Spirit points me when I have been mulling over Scripture for a particular blog post. Many times, I wrestle with a topic because I know I have not mastered it in my own life. Let me be clear, I am still learning and growing in His great sanctification process, and I will never reach the desired end until heaven! So, understand anything I write is for me first and foremost! Certainly, we all need to come to terms with all that God’s Word makes clear.

That just doesn’t work for me! I have tried to follow the Bible, but I do not believe God intends for us to obey every part of His Word.

It is so easy to “roll our eyes,” “turn our noses up,” or “have steam coming out our ears” over what another Christian and even a lost person endorse. What about the issue of abortion; “their body their choice”?! What about an individual who feels they are in the wrong body, and they want a sex change?! Or even when they deny the whole Creation account (Gen. 1-3) wherein God said it and it was done?!

While I believe that God’s Word speaks clearly and concisely to all three of those topics, I also believe He has presented everything we need for living in this world of darkness (sin) and to bring light to every part of the darkness (the gospel lived out). One of the greatest examples God gave is to share light in the role of marriage! He clearly maps out His desire for marriage and how it best works. Yet I am told by Christian women marriage and submission is outdated. It isn’t just for our marriages but for every part of our home life and raising godly children to the glory of God. Have you felt God doesn’t know your child and His Word doesn’t work for your situation?

Do we pick and choose the truths of God’s Word according to what feels good, what WE THINK is possible, or what amount of time we are willing to invest? Over and over, we are warned in the Bible against “human wisdom” and yet time after time we elevate some human author over God Himself!

God is Truth as stated by Jesus in John 14:6 and God’s Word is Truth as stated in John 17:17; and the Apostle Peter wrote that God provides everything we need for living a godly life, while instructing us to work hard (2 Peter 1:3-10). Our sanctification takes work! And we are to be working at it with all our heart (Colossians 3:23). Now is the time! Don’t stop short!!

“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us,” (Philippians 3:12-14, NLT).
