TUNE MY HEART (September Fast)

Several days ago, I shared:

My sugar addiction is an idol, and an idol is not to be fasted from but tore from the very heart; the struggle is real, the addiction is real; However, God is even more powerful than any addiction. William Couper composed:

“The dearest idol I have known, Whatever that idol be, Help me to tear it from thy throne, And worship only thee.”

The bottom line: Am I willing for God to take my sugar addiction away? Today, September 1, 2025, I begin my nineth year for a September awakening to all the Spirit of God wants concerning my Father’s purpose for my life…I can tell you it isn’t to live in bondage to sugar or any other idol!

The truth of the matter, throughout my life I avoided prayer for God to remove my sugar addiction—just temper it! Deep down, giving up sugar was not my desire.

A.W. Tozer wrote:

“The evil habit of seeking God-and effectively prevents us from finding God in full revelation. In the and lies our great woe. If we omit the and we shall soon find God, and in Him we shall find that for which we have all our lives been secretly longing.”

TUNE MY HEART, OH GOD!

Have you witnessed an instrument out of tune being adjusted and brought back into perfect pitch? Recently, my oldest grandson and I drove to a friend’s home and asked him to look at an old, neglected child’s guitar. The strings were loose and couldn’t carry a tune. This worship pastor took the guitar into his hands and after tightening and stretching the strings until they were taut, he strummed the lower-class instrument with great surprise: The music was sweet!

Sometimes we let our fellowship with our Creator dangle: a neglected and overlooked relationship, maybe at times even avoided. When this happens, it is usually the “and” that Tozer so eloquently reveals as the culprit. The “and” will inevitably take God’s rightful place. We can fool ourselves into believing that it isn’t that serious. Tozer further says:

“Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth.”

Thus, seeking to have a heart centered on fellowship with Him is of upmost importance.

TUNE MY HEART, OH GOD!

“Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above; praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of God’s unchanging love!” (Robert Robinson, 1758).

When a heart is in tune, the tongue becomes a sonnet of praise!

Last night, I was awakened by intense indigestion. The severity was more than previously experienced causing me to wake my dear hubby—to which he gladly roused joining in conversation lasting a couple of hours before going back to bed. I told him how nice it was to spend that time talking and sharing since our lives tend to be packed with “ands” that take over our days.

Lord, be first place in my life, my greatest treasure! And please, TUNE MY HEART through this month of saying “no” to sugar!

How can the Lord help you with your tuning needs?

  1. Hi Debbie! When I do a fast, I try to limit social media, TV watching, and many different foods. I follow the FODMAPS Diet plan on restricting certain foods. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any other questions. 😉
