Living on the Edge of God’s Perimeters

Have you ever been rescued from a scary plight you ignorantly got yourself into? Well, it is possible there were many, but one perilous circumstance took place while experiencing college life as a middle-aged teen. Being somewhat gullible and not to mention naïve, I allowed myself to be escorted by a guy I had just met. He seemed nice enough. But as his tour left the college campus and soon, with a blanket of darkness covering the sky, I stared over a precipice beholding a beautiful city ablaze in lights. After being “starstruck,” I became eerily aware of my surroundings which had faces gawking from behind paper-sacked bottles.

That night I literally felt God shut the mouths of Lions just as He had with Daniel of old (Daniel 6)! But Daniel was not in the den of lions because of any careless act! Daniel was in the Lion’s den because he prayed to God. And that is exactly what I began doing: Praying! What was I thinking? While being the only female on this mountaintop surrounded by faces I did not know, I began seeing my choices in life had me, God’s child, living on the edge of His! I prayed for deliverance from that night and the Lord did shut the mouth of the lions while teaching me something very important. “He IS my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Psalm 18:2). Serving Him has become my delight!

“Fill my cup, Lord—I lift it up, Lord! Come and quench this thirsting of my soul; Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more—Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!” [Richard Blanchard, 1959]

Are you living on the edge of God’s perimeters?

P.S. It was not long after this experience that God brought my future husband into the picture. And how thankful I have been!
