Rescued from the Lion’s Den

As a young girl looking for something to satisfy the deepest yearnings of my soul, I found myself in situations that could have produced very different results! Like Daniel from the Bible, I experienced the lion’s den. But unlike Daniel, it was my carelessness and naiveté that brought about my perilous circumstances.

One vivid memory from long ago is of . . .

A gullible young woman being escorted by a guy she had just memet during a weekend high-school experience of college life. Staring over the precipice, she beheld the city of Birmingham all ablaze in lights as darkness had settled in. What was she thinking, out with this boy she had just met? Who were all these faces gawking at her as they sat around the cliff drinking from their bottles? Why had she put herself in such a risky situation that caused her such a level of anxiety? What was her heart actually yearning for that caused her to make such foolish choices?

The Lord shut the mouth of the lions that night and taught me something very important. He IS my Rescuer! He IS my Defender! But more importantly, He IS my Maker, my Redeemer, and Friend. He fills the craving heart with so much more.

“Fill my cup, Lord—I lift it up, Lord! Come and quench this thirsting of my soul; Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more—Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!” [Richard Blanchard, 1959]
