Rescued from the Lion’s Den

As a young girl looking to satisfy the deepest yearnings of my soul, I found myself in situations that could have produced very different results! Like Daniel from the Bible, I had my own Lion’s Den experience. But unlike Daniel, it was my carelessness and naiveté that brought about my perilous circumstances.

The memory is still very vivid from long ago . . .

me

A gullible young woman being escorted by a guy she had just met during a weekend high-school experience of college life. Staring over the precipice, she beheld the big city all ablaze in lights as darkness settled in. What was she thinking, out with this boy she had just met? Who were all these faces gawking at her as they sat around the cliff drinking from their bottles? Why had she put herself in such a risky situation? What caused her to make such foolish choices?

The Lord shut the mouth of the lions that night and taught me something very important. He IS my Rescuer! He IS my Defender! But more importantly, He IS my Maker, my Redeemer, and Friend. He fills the craving heart with so much more.

“Fill my cup, Lord—I lift it up, Lord! Come and quench this thirsting of my soul; Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more—Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!” [Richard Blanchard, 1959]
