As I sit here in disbelief that September is already upon us yet so excited for the pleasing tastes of Autumn, I must postpone them for another sugar, dairy fast.
Looking back over the astonishing benefits that I experienced through the month-long fast of September 2017, I’m encouraged to participate in this exercise once again, and Lord willing, with a lot less wailing and bemoaning! If you joined me and read my daily post, you totally get what I’m saying. “WINK”
Last year, my annual physical just happened to fall the month after my fast. It was a very encouraging visit from the blood work to even stepping on the scales! My Cholesterol was so improved there was no mention of putting me on medication (something I have consistently said “no” to). But the greatest benefit by far was the opportunity to allow the Lord to have His rightful place in my heart instead of my coffee or my sweets which often become my reason to do life. As someone who consistently fights feelings of despair, I have learned what I put in my body plays a huge role in how I feel, mentally and physically!
I can’t tell you how many times I have lived in despair because of too much sugar in my diet, not enough water, and literally where the focus of my heart dwelt! During a month-long fast without the things I crave, the Lord becomes my focus as He consistently sustains me. Last year proved that time after time He met me where I was and filled me with understanding and knowledge. He filled me with His Spirit (Ephesians 6), and I was joyfully full. Like the woman at the well looking in all the wrong places and finding what I Desired was right in front of me!
But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval (John 6:27, NLT).
My child, listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair,
and you will find the right way to go.
For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will fill you with joy.
Wise choices will watch over you.
Understanding will keep you safe (Proverbs 2:1-11, NLT).
Thanks, Timothy! I trust it will be an encouragement to you!!
