I read online that water infiltration is the number one cause for potholes in asphalt. Much of “my Road” through life has been filled with damaged pavement, producing the largest, deepest sinkholes known to man. At times these sinkholes were engulfed with rainwater. Can you imagine journeying across the country hitting sinkhole after sinkhole? Exactly! Landing dead center engulfed in these drowning craters, I lost hope for survival many times, yet I survived! The Roadmaster – my Savior who died for the sins of the world – taught me to not look for a “trouble-free” highway without potholes, but to look to him. He wanted me to learn, I could never be a perfect driver. And sometimes the experience of the potholes was to remind me I was not equipped to travel on my own. He is the original, one and only, Roadmaster with built-in GPS, giving me unimpeded communication along the way. It is like having access to AAA or the National General Motor Club BUT even better! I have learned he does not want me to live in despair (it is not honoring him) and he will NEVER abandon me!
So, my big purpose on the Scarlett Road will always be finding hope for the journey no matter how bumpy the road becomes while looking to eternity for the gratification of all he has promised. The Bible, God’s Word to man, is the best roadmap to have for the journey and I am especially enjoying the book of Ephesians. Years ago, I became a born again Christian not because of anything I had done but all because of what Jesus Christ accomplished through his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. My heavenly Father Sought me, his Son Saved me, and his Holy Spirit Sealed me – my name is forever recorded in the Book of Life. Simultaneously, I was adopted into the family of God and made a joint heir with Jesus for all eternity. I want my focus to be the streets of gold that never, ever will erode or develop sinkholes.
The first 3 chapters (1-3) of the informative book of Ephesians gives understanding to who we are in Christ – positionally – as a believer saved by grace – no longer children of wrath and separated from God but placed securely into the family of God where there is no longer fear of condemnation. Our Identity is secure!
The next 3 chapters (4-6) of Ephesians illustrates practicality – applying a Lifestyle not of the rich and famous but of the humble and meek servant of the King. This lifestyle steers us out of our comfort zone and onto the path of walking worthily. There are many places where a vehicle is not allowed, in our homes, on sidewalks, in buildings, and at these times, we must ditch our automobiles and start walking. Just like our driving, our walk says much about us. That’s why God provides us with a roadmap conducive for walking or driving. Just as a toddler learns to take step after step, we are given steps to take to lead a life worthy of our calling, because we have been called by God! People, there is none higher . . . there is none greater . . . than our Creator God! To be called by God means we serve the Designer of everything – The One True God – Who made us and fashioned us for a great purpose (Psalm 119:73). One purpose being to speak truth in love (Ephesians 4:15a) on this journey.
So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12, NLT
Now all glory to God, who is Able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Ephesians 3:20
Love to you all on this journey following the Roadmaster and His Roadmap, even if you hit a sinkhole, but always stepping out of your comfort zone to walk worthily!
Scarlett
