Run/Walk for Autism – October 10, 2026

Another 5K; another falling into line

However, this was the first year for me to run/walk the actual 5K. Previously, I had participated in the mile and then last year besides the mile, I assisted my people by meeting them down the hill with a mile left in their 3.1 miles to take their jackets so they could finish strong.

As I continue asking God to point me to my purpose in all of this, He graciously gives clarity as I serve others and through that service, I become a powerhouse of encouragement.

So, this is my plea over the bullhorn: Don’t give up, keep moving forward!

And since my grandson is determined to participate in the 3.1 miles but easily loses his confidence, I run/walk with him to be that voice of encouragement communicating not to give up but to keep on moving forward and not lose sight of the bigger picture. What a difference it makes when someone is walking alongside you and points you to a healthier objective, giving a level of motivation that doesn’t focus on the grueling hills or the length of the run or how much further we have before the finish line. And even when mental exhaustion turns into a physical attack which resembles a cramp or pain needing immediate coaching, the encourager steps up to the plate and walks through it with them.

There is no better service we can render to a fellow-follower of Christ on their journey to the celestial city of God. Who doesn’t get worn down or find the road to be grueling at times? So many ups and downs can easily bring discouragement and a desire to quit. But when we view this hard road as an adventure: one that we can encourage the person next to us—we are walking in the way of the great men and women of the faith.

For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means “Son of Encouragement”), Acts 4:36, NLT.
