Day 2
No sugar or dairy
I lazily pulled myself out of bed this morning and steeped a cup of Raspberry Tea. I can handle raspberry much better than the sage but I know each has a purpose and will aid in my overall health.
Needing to fill my refrigerator and pantry with the right foods, we headed out to the grocery stores. Vitamin D-packed mushrooms were on the list among other things. I really do enjoy eating healthy but I still crave those sugary treats which are a “no-no” for this month (and possibly longer). I lamented as I entered a grocery store (because of a Starbucks inside) that I couldn’t indulge in pumpkin spice lattes now that they’re back!
But the Lord didn’t leave me “high and dry” (where does that phrase come from anyway?), because He gave me the perfect message from Joni Eareckson Tada in A Spectacle of Glory.
The Scripture was Jeremiah 17:7-8 which reads: “But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and has made the Lord his hope and confidence. He is like a tree planted along a riverbank, with its roots reaching deep into the water—a tree not bothered by the heat nor worried by long months of drought. Its leaves stay green and it goes right on producing all its luscious fruit” (The Living Bible).
Do you remember what I shared from Day 1? A post from David Jeremiah. He too was talking about where our confidence should rest. I love when God does that!
Joni shared these thoughts:
…Jesus satisfies and sustains us [and] to have Him near means you have it all. To know Him is to realize He is your dearest, most faithful companion. When life becomes difficult and anxieties press in, your spirit can remain fresh and strong as you send your roots deep into His hidden streams. The next time you pour a cold drink on a hot summer afternoon, pause and praise the Lord for the way He quenches your thirst. He, the Wellspring of Water, fulfills and satisfies like nothing else, like no one else.
And her prayer:
Lord, I know these little roots of mine can go deeper into Your life, Your provision, Your companionship. Help me to stay fresh and alive and hopeful, even when my circumstances are hurtful and hard to bear. May the fruit I bear, even in a time of drought, bring honor to You.
Where does your confidence rest for whatever you are facing?
