Even through the early history of man there was a demonstration of judgement accompanied by grace. The Bible explains both God’s judgement and grace. We can trust the Bible (John 17:17).  

The Bible is one book, one history, one story, His story. Behind 10,000 events stands God, the builder of history, the maker of the ages. Eternity bounds the one side, eternity bounds the other side, and time is in between: Genesis—origins, Revelation—endings, and all the way between, God is working things out. You can go down into the minutest detail everywhere and see that there is one great purpose moving through the ages: the eternal design of the almighty God to redeem a wrecked and ruined world.

We have witnessed the beginning of the world in Genesis 1:1-25 followed by the crown of creation, the human race in Genesis 1:26-2:25, and the fall of man transmitting sin into the world in Genesis 3:1-7.

Mears goes on to say, “Genesis begins with ‘God’ but ends ‘in a coffin.’ This book is a history of human failure. But we find that God meets every failure. He is a glorious Saviour [sic]. We find that ‘where sin abounded, grace did much more abound’ (Romans 5:20).”

When Adam chose to follow Eve in eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, he brought sin to ALL men, for all have sinned (Romans 5:12-21). And yet, God’s grace was evident even before their expulsion from the Garden as we witnessed Him making garments to clothe them (Genesis 3:21).

Man’s sin did not catch God by surprise. God knows everything, and He had a plan. His plan was to send a Savior, a Redeemer to make atonement for the sins of the world. Even as the LORD God gave out the penalties for sin there in the garden (Genesis 3:14-21), He promised the seed of the woman would bruise the head of Satan. A great promise of the Redeemer, Messiah through his death and resurrection (Hebrews 2:14-18), and ultimately when Satan is cast into the Lake of Fire (Romans 16:20; Revelation 20:10).
