“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.”
Psalm 34:17
How desperate must we be before falling on our face before our Creator God begging for help? In Whom or in What are we placing our trust?
When the Israelites turned to God in prayer during desperate times of judgment, He assured them that He would hear. But there were three conditions that had to be met –
A humble heart, obedience to do what He asks, and a repentant soul that turns from sin.
“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
- Church age saints are still called to humility, “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up . . .” (1 Peter 5:6).
- Church age saints are still to live in obedience, “If you love me, obey my commandments” (John 14:15). “. . . we must obey God rather than any human authority” (Acts 5:29).
- Church age saints must continue in repentance, “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness” (1 John 1:9).
O God, make us desperate, and grant us faith and boldness to approach Your throne, and make our petitions known, knowing that in so doing, we link arms with the Omnipotence and become instruments of Your eternal purposes on this earth.
