C2C, Part 11: Tower of Babel

God pasted a rainbow in the sky as His promise to never flood the earth again. He gave a command to Noah and his family, to populate and fill the earth just as He had with Adam and Eve (Genesis 9:1-2). But it was not long before the people began to forget the goodness of God and how He had saved a remnant from the flood. And thus, man chose to live for man and to serve idols. “Then they said, ‘Come, let us build a great city for OURSELVES with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make US famous and keep US from being scattered all over the world’” (Genesis 11:4, NLT).

The people refused to obey God’s command to fill the earth and subdue it. They refused to give God His rightful place in their lives as Creator.

“I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to anyone else, nor share my praise with carved idols.”

Isaiah 42:8

So God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit communicated internally, as they had on Day Sixth of Creation Week when they made man in their image, to help man follow through on the command to fill the earth and rule over the animal world (Genesis 11:7-9).

The Lord God caused the people to speak different languages. Since they could no longer understand one another, they separated into their various people groups and moved away to different parts of the country. Over time they would end up populating the whole earth, which is what God originally commanded.

There were a few people who continued to worship the true and living God, but the majority turned away from God. Yet, He still loved His creation and had a rescue plan in mind. The Deliverer would come!
